Diagnose a First Horizon Digital Banking Session

Start a First Horizon login from firsthorizon.com, select Log in, and confirm that the correct personal, Small Business, or Corporate service is selected. This independent guide is not affiliated with First Horizon Bank and cannot access, recover, or change customer accounts.

A session problem can resemble a credential problem. Check whether the form is incomplete, the browser stopped retaining session information, or a protected request is asking for fresh authentication before using account recovery.

What First Horizon is

First Horizon Bank is a U.S. financial institution offering personal, Small Business, corporate, mortgage, trust, investment, and related financial services. Its personal login page identifies eligible deposit services as provided by First Horizon Bank, Member FDIC.

The keyword “First Horizon” often represents one immediate task: enter Digital Banking, recover an existing profile, enroll for access, or understand why the bank requests another sign-in during the same visit.

The browser state matters.

Identify the screen before troubleshooting

The personal First Horizon login page displays a service selector followed by User ID, Password, Login, Enroll for access, and Forgot ID or password.

The direct Digital Banking form uses these labels:

  • Enter User ID
  • Enter Password
  • Show
  • Forgot User ID/Password
  • We still need your User ID
  • We still need your Password
Visible screen or messageMore relevant check

Forgot User ID/PasswordRecover an existing Digital Banking profile
Enroll for accessEstablish Digital Banking access
Before you continueAuthenticate for a protected customer request
Repeated sign-in after browser changesReview the browser session and cookies
Small Business help menuCheck business profile access or entitlements

Do this first: read the exact wording. Skip password recovery when the page merely says that a required field remains incomplete.

A missing-field notice does not state that the profile was locked, disabled, or rejected. It only identifies the entry that the form still requires.

Why cookies matter during a banking session

First Horizon’s Online Privacy Policy says session cookies are used within its online and mobile banking products to monitor session activity. Those cookies are encrypted, deleted when the session ends, and allow multiple transactions to be processed during a session without requiring the customer to reenter a passcode for each one.

That explains why browser behavior can affect the experience after the initial login.

A session may be interrupted when:

  • The browser rejects required session cookies
  • Privacy software removes cookies during the visit
  • The customer switches into another browser profile
  • Browser data is cleared between steps
  • The original session ends
  • A protected form requires authentication again

This does not mean customers should weaken general browser security. It means the browser must be able to maintain the temporary session information required by the bank’s Digital Banking workflow.

Priority one: keep the test controlled. Skip deleting all cookies before checking whether the browser is already discarding the current First Horizon session.

When another sign-in is expected

Some First Horizon customer-service requests open a page titled Before you continue.

The page explains that the selected form is for customers and asks for a Digital Banking Username and Password. If the fields are left empty, it displays Please enter a value for Username and Please enter a value for Password. Customers without Digital Banking credentials are instructed to visit a branch or call 800-382-5465.

This extra screen does not necessarily mean that the previous profile disappeared. It is an authentication checkpoint for the protected request.

Use the established Digital Banking profile there. Skip credentials belonging to a mortgage application, investment service, or corporate platform unless the page explicitly identifies that service.

A session interruption can also lead the browser back to authentication. That possibility becomes more relevant when ordinary Digital Banking worked, but the customer was returned to a sign-in page after moving into another protected workflow.

Check the page title. Then continue.

Test the session without changing everything

Use one narrow sequence:

  1. Close old First Horizon tabs.
  2. Type firsthorizon.com manually.
  3. Select Log in.
  4. Confirm the correct banking service.
  5. Complete both required fields.
  6. Keep the same browser window open while moving through the account.
  7. Note whether the session ends after one specific action.

Do not reset the profile, erase all browser data, reinstall the app, and begin enrollment in the same attempt. That removes the evidence needed to tell whether the problem follows the account, browser, or protected request.

If the main login works in one current browser but repeatedly restarts in another, focus on the failing browser’s session handling. If every approved channel rejects the established profile before the dashboard opens, recovery becomes more relevant.

One variable at a time.

First Horizon’s security guidance also recommends keeping browsers, operating systems, applications, and security software current.

Enrollment and recovery remain separate

Choose Enroll for access when Digital Banking has never been created for the eligible First Horizon relationship. Choose Forgot ID or password when an established profile worked previously but can no longer be used. Both controls appear on First Horizon’s personal login page.

First Horizon’s Digital Banking FAQs confirm that Digital Banking uses multi-factor authentication.

Use this decision:

  • No User ID was ever created: enroll.
  • The profile worked before: recover it.
  • The form says a required field is missing: complete that field.
  • Login works but the session ends later: investigate the browser session.
  • A protected request asks for authentication: use the existing Digital Banking profile.
  • An unexpected verification request arrives separately: treat it as a security concern.

Enrollment is not a browser repair. Recovery is not a fix for a temporary session cookie that disappears between screens.

Determine which layer failed first.

Compare the website and mobile app

First Horizon’s Digital Banking service supports online and mobile account access, bill payment, transfers, statements, alerts, and related functions.

The mobile service includes features such as push notifications, fingerprint-enabled login, money movement, and the ability to freeze an eligible debit or credit card to help prevent unauthorized use.

Compare the channels:

  • Website and app both reject the established profile: use recovery.
  • Website works but the app fails: focus on the app or device session.
  • App works but the website repeatedly returns to login: focus on the browser session.
  • Both open, but one feature is absent: check product access instead of changing credentials.
  • Personal access works but Small Business does not: confirm the account category.
  • A secondary business user lacks one function: review business permissions.

Do not reinstall first. Confirm whether the same profile works through another First Horizon channel, then isolate the environment that remains affected.

This comparison separates authentication from session continuity.

Small Business users may have an entitlement problem

First Horizon’s Small Business Digital Banking Help center includes separate resources for Forgot User ID or Password, Adding an Authorized User, Changing User Entitlements, Adding Account Alerts, and other business tasks.

That creates two different support cases:

  • The user cannot enter the Small Business profile.
  • The user enters successfully but cannot access an account or function.

Use recovery for the first. For the second, review user entitlements or the authorized-user setup.

A successful dashboard load proves that the primary login worked. It does not grant every business user access to every account, report, payment function, or payroll tool.

Check access rights first. Skip company-wide password changes when only one user or function is affected.

First Horizon’s Small Business recovery page also links to demonstrations for adding authorized users, changing security settings, adding payees, making transfers, and completing payroll payments.

Alerts can reveal whether a session completed

First Horizon says current Digital Banking customers can manage alerts by logging in, selecting Messages & Alerts, and choosing Alerts. Statements Online are managed through Accounts/Statements.

A separate First Horizon page directs customers to Settings – Manage Alerts when changing the mobile device associated with text-alert preferences. It also says customers who received an alert in error can call 800-382-5465.

These controls sit after authentication.

If a customer reaches Messages & Alerts or Accounts/Statements, the primary login and session were functioning at that moment. A later return to the login page should be described as a session interruption rather than a total inability to enter Digital Banking.

That wording matters when contacting support.

Do the navigation check first. Skip account recovery merely because one later page requested authentication again.

Unexpected verification changes the priority

First Horizon says it will not contact customers and ask them to verify their identity by sending codes or supplying passwords through phone, email, or text. Customers who receive a suspicious message claiming to be from the bank are directed to contact Client Services at 800-382-5465.

An expected authentication screen appears while the customer is using a bank service they deliberately opened. An unexpected request arriving separately is different.

Do not approve it.

First Horizon also advises customers to change their User ID and password when an email alert, push notification, or one-time passcode appears without an action that would have triggered it.

Security comes first. Skip session troubleshooting while unfamiliar account activity is being evaluated.

Choose the support route by failed layer

First Horizon publishes 800-382-5465 on its contact page and provides links for Digital and Mobile Banking support.

Use the problem description to reach the appropriate channel:

  • Existing profile rejected before entry: Digital Banking recovery
  • No Digital Banking User ID: enrollment
  • Repeated login after moving between protected pages: browser-session troubleshooting
  • Missing Small Business function after entry: entitlement or authorized-user support
  • Alert received in error: the alert-management support route
  • Suspicious message or unrequested authentication event: Client Services

When explaining the issue, state the selected service, browser or app, last screen reached, action performed immediately before the session ended, and whether another channel works.

“Digital Banking opens, but the browser returns to login after I enter a protected customer request” is useful. “First Horizon keeps logging me out” leaves several possibilities unresolved.

Keep the report precise.

FDIC coverage follows the financial product

First Horizon’s personal login page displays the FDIC-insured designation for eligible banking services.

The same login area can route customers toward trust, investment, insurance, and other financial products. Shared branding does not make every linked service an insured deposit.

The Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation covers eligible deposits under applicable ownership categories and limits. Read the disclosure attached to the exact service.

Products and available features can vary by account and region.

Frequently asked questions

Where should I start?

Use firsthorizon.com and select Log in.

What does “We still need your User ID” mean?

The required field is incomplete.

Why does First Horizon use session cookies?

First Horizon says encrypted session cookies monitor online and mobile banking activity and support multiple transactions during one session without requiring the passcode to be entered again for each transaction. The session cookie is deleted when the session ends.

Should I clear all cookies when login repeats?

Not as the first step. A broad cookie deletion can end stored sessions and remove evidence about what caused the problem. Restart from the bank’s main site, test one current browser session, and determine whether the issue follows that browser before making wider changes.

Why does a support form ask me to sign in again?

Some customer requests use the Before you continue authentication screen. It asks for the existing Digital Banking profile and directs customers without those credentials to a branch or the listed support number.

How do I manage account alerts?

Log in, select Messages & Alerts, and choose Alerts. Text-alert device preferences can be managed through Settings – Manage Alerts.

Can a business user sign in but lack a feature?

Yes. First Horizon provides separate Small Business workflows for changing user entitlements and adding authorized users, so a successful login does not necessarily grant access to every business function.

What should I do with an unexpected verification request?

Do not respond through the unexpected communication. First Horizon says it will not ask customers to send codes or provide passwords through phone, email, or text. Contact the bank through an established route.
