Start a First Horizon login at firsthorizon.com, select Log in, and choose the banking service connected to your account. This independent guide is not affiliated with First Horizon Bank and cannot access or change customer profiles.
A familiar User ID and password may be followed by another verification step when the attempt comes from a new, unknown, or untrusted source. Check the device prompt first. Skip repeated password changes when First Horizon is requesting additional authentication rather than rejecting the underlying profile.
What First Horizon is
First Horizon Bank is a U.S. financial institution serving personal, small-business, commercial, mortgage, trust, and wealth clients. Its personal login page identifies banking products as provided by First Horizon Bank and displays its Member FDIC status.
The phrase “First Horizon login” may refer to first-time enrollment, ordinary Digital Banking access, account recovery, a new-device verification step, or authentication for a protected service request.
Those situations should not be handled alike.
Read the sign-in screen before changing anything
The standard personal login page includes a service selector followed by User ID, Password, Login, Enroll for access, and Forgot ID or password.
The dedicated Digital Banking form can also display these messages:
- We still need your User ID
- We still need your Password
- Forgot User ID/Password
| Visible message or control | What it indicates |
|---|---|
| We still need your User ID | The required User ID field is incomplete |
| We still need your Password | The required password field is incomplete |
| Forgot User ID/Password | Recovery for an established profile |
| Enroll for access | Setup for a customer without Digital Banking access |
| Verification prompt | Extra authentication may be required |
| Remember This Device | Choice about future challenges on that device |
| Before you continue | Authentication for a protected customer form |
A missing-field message is not an account-lock notice. A password manager may fill one field and leave the other blank, producing a warning before the bank can evaluate the complete sign-in.
Do this first: inspect both fields. Skip recovery when the page is merely identifying an incomplete entry.
Why First Horizon may verify a new device
First Horizon says its Digital Banking system evaluates more than the submitted User ID and password. It compares the attempt with prior activity and may require stepped-up authentication when access appears to come from a new, unknown, untrusted, or otherwise suspicious source.
That explains several ordinary scenarios:
- A replacement phone is being used.
- The mobile application was installed again.
- A different computer or browser profile was opened.
- Browser information was cleared.
- The customer declined to have a device remembered.
- The attempt differs from previous login patterns.
The additional prompt does not automatically mean the profile has been disabled. It can mean the system needs more evidence that the person attempting access is the established customer.
First Horizon also states that certain higher-risk actions can trigger verification after login, including adding a new payment recipient or changing profile contact information.
Priority one: complete the bank’s normal verification workflow on a device you control. Skip several consecutive password resets when the password stage has already been passed.
What “Remember This Device” changes
First Horizon’s Small Business Digital Banking guide documents a Remember This Device option during authentication. Selecting it can allow the customer to bypass a security challenge on later logins from that same computer or device. The guide specifically warns against selecting it on a shared computer.
First Horizon’s Digital Banking FAQ describes the related verification-code behavior. Choosing to remember a new device can prevent the same code prompt during later visits from that device; declining the choice can result in a verification prompt at subsequent traditional User ID and password logins.
Use the option only after considering who controls the device:
- Private phone or personal computer: remembering may be appropriate.
- Shared family computer: leave it unremembered.
- Workplace-shared terminal: leave it unremembered.
- Borrowed or public device: do not mark it as trusted.
- Device being sold, returned, or replaced: do not rely on its remembered state.
A remembered device is a convenience setting, not a permanent removal of account security. First Horizon may continue to evaluate access attempts and higher-risk actions.
Small choice. Lasting effect.
First-time login includes several setup screens
A newly enrolled user may not land on the account dashboard immediately.
First Horizon’s Small Business Digital Banking guide says an initial visit may require the customer to answer four security questions, accept the Terms of Service, establish a contact method for security verification, and review regular contact information. The profile icon in the upper-right corner is identified as the route for reviewing or updating that information.
A separate First Horizon first-time login page lists a similar sequence:
- Enter the existing password.
- Reset it when prompted.
- Accept the new terms and conditions.
- Verify or update personal information.
- Select and answer four security questions.
These screens are part of setup. Closing them and beginning another enrollment can create confusion about whether the original profile was completed.
Finish the displayed setup first. Skip opening another registration path merely because the account overview has not appeared yet.
The exact sequence may vary by customer type and service.
Enrollment and recovery solve different problems
First Horizon’s recovery page is titled Forgot User ID Or Password. It directs customers without a User ID to enroll in online banking, while established users continue through recovery. The page lists 800-511-9160 as the contact associated with that service.
Use Enroll for access when Digital Banking has never been established for an eligible banking relationship.
Use Forgot ID or password when the profile worked previously but its User ID or password is no longer known or accepted.
Common mistakes include:
- Starting another enrollment after forgetting an existing User ID.
- Using recovery even though Digital Banking was never created.
- Resetting the password when only a new-device challenge is appearing.
- Recovering a personal profile while trying to reach a business service.
First Horizon says existing Digital Banking customers are automatically enrolled for Mobile Banking and use their existing Digital Banking credentials. A separate mobile registration should not normally be required for an already enrolled profile.
Determine whether the profile existed. Then choose one route.
What happens during Small Business recovery
First Horizon’s Small Business guide documents recovery from Forgot user ID or password? in the website’s login menu. The user selects Business, continues through the bank’s verification workflow, and creates a replacement password. The guide says the issued access code remains valid for 10 minutes.
That ten-minute window matters operationally. Starting the process without access to the established verification method can result in an expired code before the reset is completed.
Do not begin several parallel recovery sessions. A later code can supersede or be confused with an earlier attempt, and repeated submissions make it harder to identify which recovery session remains active.
Use one recovery process. Complete it before reopening the form.
First Horizon’s guide also documents a mobile recovery route beginning with Forgot User ID or Password? in the application.
Website works, but the mobile app does not
First Horizon allows Digital Banking access from multiple computers when a current encrypted browser is used. Mobile Banking can also be accessed from multiple devices when they use a recent operating system and have not been jailbroken or otherwise modified.
Compare the channels:
- Website and app both fail: review the profile or recovery route.
- Website works but a new phone fails: focus on device authentication.
- App works but the website fails: reopen First Horizon from its main domain.
- One browser works and another does not: inspect the failing browser session.
- Login works but a new recipient cannot be added: expect a separate verification control.
- Business dashboard opens but one task is unavailable: review business entitlements rather than the password.
First Horizon’s security guidance says Mobile Banking authentication includes both the confidential passcode and confirmation of the authorized end-user device. Without both, mobile authentication is prevented.
Do not reinstall first. Confirm whether the profile works through another bank-provided channel, then isolate the device problem.
Browser convenience can conflict with banking security
First Horizon recommends confirming that online banking uses a secure https session. It also advises business users to avoid automatic login features that save online-banking usernames and passwords and to avoid leaving a banking session unattended.
Browser indicators vary, so a lock icon may look different across browsers and configurations. The domain and secure connection should be checked before proceeding.
Another tension appears with stored sessions. Clearing browser data may remove information that helped First Horizon recognize a device, which can cause an additional verification prompt during the next login. This is an inference from First Horizon’s remembered-device and risk-based authentication documentation.
Skip broad browser deletion as the opening move. Use it only when there is a browser-specific reason and be prepared for the bank to treat the next session as less familiar.
Protected forms use Digital Banking authentication
Some First Horizon customer requests lead to a page titled Before you continue.
The page asks existing customers to sign in with a Digital Banking Username and Password. Empty fields can display Please enter a value for Username and Please enter a value for Password. Customers without Digital Banking credentials are directed to visit a branch or call 800-382-5465.
This is an authentication checkpoint for the selected request, not necessarily a second account.
Use the established Digital Banking profile. Skip mortgage, investment, or corporate credentials unless the page specifically names that service.
Customers who can sign in and have an account-specific question are directed to Messages, Secure Messages, and Send Us a Secure Message. First Horizon says its public questions form is generally answered within one to two business days and should not be used for urgent or sensitive account matters.
Unexpected verification is a security matter
First Horizon says it will not contact customers and ask them to verify their identity by sending codes or providing passwords through phone, email, or text. A customer who receives a suspicious communication claiming to be from the bank is directed to contact Client Services through the bank’s established channel.
Do not approve an action you did not initiate.
An expected verification prompt appears during a login or transaction the customer started. An unexpected request arriving separately should be treated differently.
Return to firsthorizon.com manually. Skip links and contact details contained only in the suspicious message.
Frequently asked questions
Can I use First Horizon Digital Banking on several devices?
Yes. First Horizon says Digital Banking can be accessed through multiple current computers and Mobile Banking through multiple supported, unmodified devices.
Why am I receiving a verification prompt?
First Horizon may require stepped-up authentication when a login comes from a new, unknown, untrusted, or suspicious source.
Should I remember a shared computer?
No.
Can I request verification at every traditional login?
First Horizon says declining the remembered-device choice can cause a verification prompt on future User ID and password logins from that device. Customers whose profile already remembers a device can contact Client Services to request a change.
Why was I verified again after adding a payment recipient?
First Horizon says verification is required for certain higher-risk activities, including adding recipients and changing profile contact information, even after the customer has entered Digital Banking successfully.
What if I never created a Digital Banking User ID?
Use Enroll for access. First Horizon’s recovery page directs customers without a User ID to online enrollment.
How long is a Small Business recovery code valid?
The Small Business user guide says 10 minutes.
Why does a customer-service form ask me to sign in?
Some account-related forms are protected by Digital Banking authentication. The Before you continue page requests the existing Digital Banking profile and provides alternate support instructions for customers without it.
